Blackwater Vets Open Day

“Helping pet owners of Mersea Island and surrounding areas to maintain the wellbeing of their beloved family pet, through provision of veterinary care and education on responsible ownership.”

Thank you to all our wonderful clients who joined us for our Open Day on Saturday 8th October. It was such a pleasure to be able to open our doors to social events again and invite people in for a tour of the practice and to sample our custom-made cupcakes. Thank you to Kate at Buttercups, they were delicious!

The last few years have been difficult with the pandemic but also due to the ongoing recruitment crisis in the veterinary industry. We wanted to thank our clients for their ongoing support during these times and are always so grateful to the wonderful community of pet lovers we are proud to have as members of our practice.

The theme of our Open Day was education. We continually strive to learn and develop our knowledge to ensure we offer the best advice, care and treatment for our clients and furry friends.

We enjoyed giving clients reassurance that their pets are made to feel welcome, comfortable and safe whilst in our care.

Wendy led our practice tours and as a long standing and familiar face of the practice was able to answer questions around our practice ethos and values. She was also keen to answer questions regarding our ever-popular Nose-to-Tail healthcare plans.

Practice owner and vet Ola talked about cat wellbeing and the practice’s Silver accreditation as a Cat Friendly Clinic through International Cat Care. This was also a good opportunity for her to discuss the importance and differences between pet insurances.

Physiotherapist, Lana answered questions around pet mobility and pain management.

Rachael talked about all the education and support she can offer with nurse clinics including advice on diet and exercise. She was also very happy to introduce her new Puppy and Kitten clinics.

Ashleigh explained the steps we put in place to ensure pets are kept fear free during their visit. She also showed and demonstrated our x-ray machine and anaesthetic equipment.

Independent Consultant Paula answered questions about canine behaviour, welfare and offered support with pre-ownership advice.

The Open day was also a great opportunity to introduce our new team members, Charley and Holly. Charley joins us from an emergency treatment practice and brings lots of experience of patient care in a hospital environment. Holly is new to the veterinary profession and brings a wealth of experience with client care and compassion with her.

Ultimately our objective at Blackwater Vets is to create a community which is focused on pet care and the wellbeing of owners and families.

Thank you again to everyone that joined us. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future. Watch this space for future dates!
