Pet Wellbeing

The link between physical and emotional health is well recognised in human health and we are passionate about recognising this link for achieving positive pet wellbeing. For this reason, we focus on emotional health alongside physical. We work with our clients to educate on all aspects of pet wellbeing to promote a healthy and happy life.

A key element of this involves doing everything we can to help pets feel relaxed during their visits. Alongside our veterinary expertise, we are continually growing our knowledge of pet communication at the practice and adapt our environment and put polices in place to ensure that pet visits are as relaxed as possible.

We invite our clients to understand the value of visiting us regularly in order that we can focus on your pet’s overall wellbeing, get to know them well and develop a relationship built on trust with both you and your pet.

Our Nose to Tail healthcare plan is an example of this commitment to offering lifelong support to your pet. The plan offers the key elements for keeping pets healthy and whilst it doesn’t prevent pets getting injured or becoming sick from the unexpected, it does offer the best opportunity to protect pets from otherwise preventable diseases and parasite infection.

If you have any concerns about your pet’s health and welfare the starting point is to contact our knowledgeable and friendly reception team who will listen to you and your pet’s needs and guide you.

A veterinary consultation is usually recommended where our vet Ola will assess your pet. If there are any signs of pain, medication may be a priority with numerous effective, safe, and long-term options for pets available. Sometimes other diagnostics may be needed such as blood tests, Ultrasound scan or X-rays. This can help with identifying the source of the discomfort and ensure the right treatment options are offered.

Evidence also supports the benefits of laser and physiotherapy; these therapies both alongside pain medication can sometimes enable pets to be kept comfortable without the need for medication.

Annual health checks

To remain registered with Blackwater Vets we require all of your pets to attend annual health checks with our Veterinary Surgeon. This is an important opportunity for us to look at your pet’s overall health and wellbeing, including checking their heart, lungs, eyes, ears, teeth, coat, bodyweight among other things. We are looking at your pet’s overall health and sometimes this gives us the opportunity to pick up on subtle signs of pain or illness in the early stages, thus treatment can begin sooner.
