Settling in a rescue dog
At Blackwater Vets we want every animal to have a happy home for all their life but we understand that some animals are not lucky enough to find their forever home first time around, and that sometimes situations change meaning that an owner can no longer keep a pet.
We are very supportive of rescue pets and want to help anyway we can.
In particular we feel it is important that before taking a new dog into your home, time is invested in considering what type of dog would most suit the home you can offer and also whether the home offered is the right environment for that particular dog.
We want to help and support our clients as they prepare to welcome a new pet into their home. In particular for rescue dogs, we work alongside knowledgeable and trusted sources who can help you.
If you are thinking of taking on a rescue dog, please contact the practice to ask us about how we can help and support you. We are now referring to a consultant who has years of experience with rescue dogs, behaviour knowledge and has also spent her career in the veterinary industry.
We are delighted to be able to help support potential new dog owners in considering all the options before choosing their new addition to the family.
If you have already taken on your new rescue dog, please see the SETTLING ADVICE SHEET for in depth advice on helping your new family member settle in.
